San Francisco Film Preserve members are a community of film lovers, archivists, and advocates united by a belief that cinema is living history. Memberships help rescue endangered films from permanent loss, restore them for new generations, and bring them back to the screen where they belong. Beyond this, members power the advocacy, access, and education programs that ensure cinema’s fragile heritage remains a visible and vital part of our cultural life.

A NOTE ON FILM CREDITS

Your name in the restoration credits creates a permanent legacy.

They are preserved as part of the restored film and appear every time the film is screened — at festivals, cinemas, on television, on streaming platforms, and in physical media format. This is not an honorary acknowledgment. It is a lasting part of cinema history. (Credits benefit begins at Front Row level.)

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes. San Francisco Film Preserve is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Our EIN is 99-4072753. Your membership contribution is tax-deductible to the extent permitted by law. You will receive a receipt for your records upon joining.

Yes. Contact us at info@filmpreserve.org to upgrade your membership at any time. You’ll be credited for the time remaining on your current membership.

At the Front Row level and above, your name will appear in the credits of films restored by SFFP during your membership period. Location of the credits (before the film or in the end credits) is determined by the membership level. Credits are permanent. They are preserved as part of the restored film and appear every time the film is screened, streamed, broadcast, or published on physical media. Your name also appears on the film’s page on the SFFP website.

Your credits are permanent regardless of whether you renew. Any film restored during your active membership period will carry your name forever.

If auto-renewal is enabled, your membership will automatically renew on its anniversary date each year. The credit card on file will be charged. You will receive a reminder email 30 days before your renewal date. You can cancel or make changes at any time before renewal. Please enable automatic renewal during sign-up, as it ensures uninterrupted access to your benefits, and for credited members, guarantees your name appears on the film(s) restored during your membership period without a gap.

Your membership directly funds film restoration, live screenings, online programs, new music scores, long-term preservation, and the advocacy and education programs that keep cinema’s fragile heritage visible and vital.

Many employers match charitable contributions made by their employees, sometimes doubling or even tripling your gift. If your employer offers a matching gift program, your membership contribution may qualify. We are happy to help facilitate the matching process for both donations and memberships.

If your employer matches your membership contribution, your membership level will be elevated to reflect the combined total. For example, a $500 membership with a $500 employer match would move you to the $1,000 Silver Screen level, including all associated benefits and film credits. This applies at every tier, making employer matching a meaningful way to deepen your impact and recognition.
