Peg o’ the Mounted at Netherlands Silent Film Festival

Slapstick Saturday, the annual highlight of the  Dutch Silent Film Festival, returns to the Parktheater. Harold Lloyd’s classic Grandma’s Boy (1922) is the main film of the evening. A touching story about insecurity and overcoming your fears, of course framed with a lot of humor. Harold is a young man who has been bullied his whole life. When he finally gets a date with the girl of his dreams, he is thwarted by his rival, who is a big bully. When the village is also terrorized by a violent homeless man, Harold flees to his grandmother to hide in his room for eternity. But his grandmother has a plan to help him get rid of his fears once and for all. The film will be accompanied by a brand new score, composed by Daan van den Hurk and performed by the Netherlands Film Orchestra conducted by Sander Vredenborg.

Before the intermission, three short comedies will be shown:

Zoé et le umbrellaie miraculeux (1913) from Cinema’s First Nasty Women collection.

Peg o’ the Mounted  (1924): Recently rediscovered short film starring child star Baby Peggy, who creatively takes down a gang of thieves as a real Canadian Mountie.

The Second Hundred Years (1927) stars Laurel and Hardy as two convicted thieves trying to escape from prison. But the more they try, the more trouble they get into.

A brilliant program that is guaranteed to make you laugh out loud. Suitable for the whole family!
